Kai's Plato, Kota Damansara - A Review

Just before our trip to Bali, we met up with a couple of friends for dinner here! The seafood was amazing and what makes it special was the way it was plated up - definitely meant for photographing enthusiasts!

Even though it was a weekday, the place was pretty packed. The hefty price tag does not seem to deter anyone from coming. Heh! Anyway, I find the food there nyum and portion was not bad.

Before the food is served, the waiter lined our table with paper @@. Next came the stand on which four tiers of metal pans were placed upon. Apparently the paper is because we are supposed to eat our seafood on them using just our hands~

While waiting for our food, I noticed the walls are all decorated by scribblings and drawings by their patrons. They looked adorable hanging everywhere and in some areas, the scallop shells where those were drawn, were hung in shapes of seafood and all!

We got a free dessert too! It's some sort of coconut jelly with brown sugar drizzled over it and it's alright IMO.

Check these out: first you have a layer of baby abalone, octopus and oysters with two packs of delectable otak-otak, my personal favourite! When you thought it couldn't get any better, you get a layer of shellfish: prawns in garlicky sauce, cheese baked mussels, and some oblong shellfish cooked in belacan! Oh and there's squid too in some sort of tomato paste. The third layer is all about slipper lobsters and crabby goodness. Last but not last, you get a whole layer of soupy seafood goodness which apparently was boiled for 8 hours with all the seafood you see. Initially we thought the soup was from all the seafood steaming above but we were sadly mistaken. The soup tasted like a blend of prawn-ish bisque reminiscent of the Penang Prawn Noodles' soup. I LOVE IT!

When we were done with all the layers, we were given our cleaned scallop shells to scribble upon. I had fun drawing and doodling and everyone had to wait for me!

Huge snails! And the yummy otak-otak!

Aren't these minions adorable?!
I wonder if these are done by the owner or the customers?

Visit them and have fun taking the photos! I think their Google Map point had some problem so here's their address:
